Fleur Drive Flooding

Plant Access & Road Closures

Current Update

From: Kyle Danley, COO
Sent: Thursday, 01 October 2026 - 06:58:05 AM

The National Weather Service has updated the projected crest for the Raccoon River at Fleur Drive to approximately 15.4 feet. This is a significant reduction from earlier projections, which were as high as 18.5 feet last night.  This morning, the National Weather Service advised that observed overnight rainfall amounts across Iowa were generally lower than forecast. As a result, the projected Raccoon River crest has been lowered substantially.

The City of Des Moines has now closed George Flagg Parkway from Park Avenue to SW 30th Street. We anticipate that additional portions of George Flagg Parkway east of SW 30th Street may close tomorrow as river levels continue to rise.

At this time, access to the Fleur Drive Water Treatment Plant remains available through the southwest corner of the levee. We will continue monitoring conditions closely and will provide an update if access changes or additional closures are necessary.

Thank you for your continued attention and flexibility as conditions evolve.
